Mastered at last!

Mastered at last!

The album I started last year has finally been mastered and should be ready to go onto spotify and the other usual places.

The tracks, who did what, and assumption of my eternal gratitude are as follows:

Cracked Up:
(me) acoustic guitar, electric guitar, upright bass, vocals lead & harmony.
Tony Brereton: Drums
Recorded at Sonic Studios in Dublin, with a special thanks to Simon Farrell on arrangement.

Luck like you:
(me) acoustic guitar, electric guitar, vocals lead & harmony
Simon Farrell: Upright bass
Albert Cowan: Drums
Recorded with Mark Reddy in Malahide and also in Sonic Studios Dublin.

I’ll be home soon:
(me) acoustic guitar, electric guitar, vocals lead & harmony, upright bass
Tony Brereton: Drums
Recorded at Sonic Studios in Dublin with a special thanks to Peter Omelia for the idea on
what kind of feel/approach to take on the drums.

Things turned out different:
(me) acoustic guitar, electric guitar, upright bass, vocals lead & harmony
Tony Brereton: Drums
Recorded at Sonic Studios in Dublin with a special thanks to Simon Farrell on arrangement.

I wanna be the person:
(me) acoustic guitar, vocals lead & harmony, opening piano lines, upright bass.
Tony Brereton: Shakers and drums
Jody Smith: all piano after the opening of the song
Recorded at The Cauldron in Blessington St. Dublin and also Sonic Studios Dublin.

Shivers down my spine:

Sometimes:

That’s how it goes:

Final mixing of 2016’s work is underway!

Final mixing of 2016’s work is underway!

I was up with Al Cowen in Sonic today and we did the final mixes for the album recorded last year and now he’s going to master them up and soon they ought to be available in the usual places where nobody will find them 🙂

It has been a good experience so far and I’m delighted with the song choices, there will be more albums to follow shortly (in part because I have nearly an album of work ready from my Jody Smith sessions in 2014 that just need some work).

Anyway, hope the feedback is good.

Getting the final touches on the 2016 effort up at Sonic Studios

Getting the final touches on the 2016 effort up at Sonic Studios

I’m back in with Al and Simon Farrell at Sonic this week to put the final touches on the 2016 album which is about 8 songs long(ish) [can’t recall].

With any luck you’ll catch a few of them at some point on the air, outside of that they are always available to pirate or rip off etc. That’s about the best you can hope for sometimes!

I did a ‘bluffer gig’ at the Grand Social

I did a ‘bluffer gig’ at the Grand Social

So I was at the Grand Social getting ready to play with the Louisiana 6 when I saw a lady getting plugged in and as I was by the stage dropping off the upright I asked her ‘do you want a bass player?’. She said ‘yeah sure, come on up’.

With nothing other than that she ‘played the blues’ we did an impromptu show together and Louisiana 6 guitarist Morgan Baker filmed a minute or two of it.

Too many songs and not much done

Too many songs and not much done

I have been writing songs since I was 17, I reckon there are about 300 of them penned at this stage. They are in different levels of completion, many are just on chorus one verse and need a lot more work. There are others that are completed.

I recorded an album in 2007 with Mark Reddy in Malahide, that is collecting dust, my 2014 album is doing the same and I’m hoping that my 2016 one breaks the mold by at least getting heard by more than three people.

Apart from this I still write for a few newspapers, keep a day job in a company I founded and help to manage since 2004, I have three children, a great wife, a mortgage and all the other usual things that keep people busy. I have written a few chapters in different published books, co-wrote a finance book in 2015 and am working on three other projects at the moment too.

The bands I play in at the moment are the Tin Box Company which is a bluegrass act, The Louisiana 6 which is a skiffle group, I sub in for either guitar or bass with the Sarah May Rogers band (I am the fourth member of a trio) and then whoever needs whatever, I’ll do that too!

I am hoping that 2016 and 2017 are the years I finally get the finger out. I have been putting off doing something with my songs for too long, part out of fear, part out of being too busy with other things. So let me know what you think be it good or bad feedback as I post the tunes up.

thanks
